Minister of Power Vows to Address Non-Performing Contracts and Improve Power Distribution
The Minister of Power, Chief Bayo Adelabu, has expressed concern over the non-performance of contracts within the power sector, particularly highlighting the case of Messr Zigglass. The company, awarded a contract worth $200 million (equivalent to N32 billion) in 2021 to supply three million meters, has failed to deliver a single unit.

Speaking on the matter, Chief Adelabu emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing such issues promptly. He stated his determination to revoke contracts where necessary to ensure accountability and efficiency within the power sector.
Furthermore, Chief Adelabu underscored the importance of holding Distribution Companies (DisCos) accountable for their performance. He warned that any DisCo lacking the capacity to fulfill its obligations, despite repeated warnings, would face revocation.
In addition to addressing contract non-performance, Chief Adelabu outlined plans to decentralize the National Grid to State Grids. This decentralization aims to improve the effectiveness of power distribution across the country, making the system more responsive to local needs and challenges.
The Minister’s remarks underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing power infrastructure and services in Nigeria. By prioritizing accountability and efficiency, Chief Adelabu aims to drive positive change within the power sector, ultimately benefiting citizens nationwide.
