Minister of Works Announces Commencement of 1000km Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway Project

The Minister of Works, Engineer Nweze David Umahi, has announced that the initial phase of the ambitious 1000km Sokoto-Badagry super highway project will begin in Kebbi State. The project is set to be inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August.

During a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi to discuss the alignment for the first and second phases of the highway project in Sokoto and Kebbi states, Umahi detailed the commencement of construction on a 258km stretch within the Kebbi area.

Umahi emphasized the historical significance of the highway’s route, noting that it follows the path of the historic trans-Sahara trade route, which was established over 48 years ago. This route, he explained, is now being actualized under President Tinubu’s administration.

The stakeholders’ meeting, attended by various local and national representatives, focused on ensuring that the project aligns with both regional development goals and national infrastructure plans. Umahi assured attendees that the project would not only improve transportation and trade but also significantly boost economic activities along the route.

The commencement of the Sokoto-Badagry super highway project marks a significant step in Nigeria’s infrastructure development, promising to enhance connectivity and foster economic growth across the regions it traverses.
