MNJTF Force Commander Conducts Operational Assessment Visit to Malam Fatori

The Force Commander (FC) of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Saidu Tanko Audu, has conducted a confidence-boosting operational assessment visit to troops of the 68 Battalion in Malam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.
The visit followed the successful defence mounted by troops against a multi-pronged attack by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists from the evening of March 18 into the early hours of March 19, 2026.
Accompanied by the Commander, Sector 3 MNJTF, Major General S. Tilawan, and the Acting Commander of 19 Brigade, Colonel Emmanuel Okon Ikang, the Force Commander conveyed commendations from the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.
Audu praised the troops for their gallantry, resilience, professionalism, and proactive response, noting that their determined defence prevented potential harm to civilians and the looting of the community.
Following a detailed operational briefing, the Force Commander provided further directives to the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Ochigbo, urging sustained vigilance and renewed commitment to counter any possible reprisal attacks by the insurgents after the heavy losses they suffered.
Addressing the troops, he emphasized teamwork, alertness, and unwavering resolve in confronting terrorist threats, charging them to remain steadfast in defending the nation. He also assured them of continued logistical support and pledged to escalate their concerns to higher authorities.
The visit also included an inspection of defensive positions, during which adjustments were made to trenches and gun placements to enhance operational effectiveness and boost troop morale. Individual soldiers were also commended for their efforts.
In a further show of engagement, the Force Commander and the Sector Commander visited the Malam Fatori community, where he urged residents to support security forces with timely and credible information. He also advised youths to resist recruitment efforts by terrorist groups and avoid being used for criminal activities.
The visit underscores ongoing efforts by the MNJTF to strengthen operational readiness, enhance civil-military relations, and sustain momentum in the fight against insurgency in the region.
