NAF, EKITI PARTNER ON AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE DEPOT TO BOOST SECURITY, ECONOMY

Ibadan, Nigeria, March 27, 2026

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has partnered with the Ekiti State Government to establish an aircraft maintenance depot aimed at strengthening national security and stimulating economic growth.

The development was announced via Aso Villa Digital, underscoring the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing defence capabilities while driving local economic development.

The proposed aircraft maintenance depot is expected to serve as a strategic hub for the servicing, repair, and overhaul of military aircraft. This will significantly reduce reliance on foreign facilities, cut maintenance costs, and improve operational readiness of the Air Force.

In addition to boosting security, the project is projected to generate employment opportunities, promote skills development, and attract investments into the state. The partnership is also expected to stimulate local industries and create a value chain around aviation and technical services.

Officials noted that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s defence infrastructure while fostering economic diversification at the state level.

Stakeholders have welcomed the move, describing it as a win-win for both national security and economic advancement, particularly in positioning Ekiti State as an emerging hub for aviation services in Nigeria.

The collaboration reflects ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and subnational entities to leverage strategic partnerships for sustainable development and improved security outcomes.
