NAFDAC DG Cries Out: “My Life Is in Danger”

The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has raised an alarm over threats to her life, citing her unwavering commitment to combating counterfeit drugs and substandard products in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Prof. Adeyeye revealed that she has been receiving threats from individuals and groups involved in the production and distribution of fake drugs and unregulated products. She attributed these threats to her agency’s intensified efforts to rid the country of harmful and counterfeit substances.

“My life is in danger due to the work we are doing at NAFDAC to protect the health of Nigerians. These threats are coming from those who are unhappy with our efforts to eliminate fake drugs and substandard products from the market,” Adeyeye stated.

The NAFDAC DG emphasized that the agency’s operations have significantly disrupted the activities of counterfeiters, leading to the seizure of large quantities of fake drugs and unapproved products across the country. She vowed not to be deterred by the threats, reaffirming her commitment to safeguarding public health.

“We will not be intimidated. Our mission is to ensure that Nigerians have access to safe, effective, and quality drugs and food products. We will continue to fight against those who seek to profit at the expense of people’s lives,” she declared.

Prof. Adeyeye called on security agencies to investigate the threats and provide adequate protection for her and other NAFDAC officials. She also urged the public to support the agency’s efforts by reporting suspicious activities and products to the nearest NAFDAC office.

The development has sparked widespread concern among stakeholders, with many calling for increased security measures to protect NAFDAC officials and ensure the agency’s operations are not hindered by criminal elements.
