NASARAWA POLICE FOILS KIDNAP ATTEMPT ALONG NASARAWA EGGON – AKWANGA ROAD

Nasarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State, Nigeria — March 24, 2026
The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully foiled a kidnap attempt along the Nasarawa Eggon–Akwanga Road in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Monday when a patrol team attached to the Nasarawa Eggon Division, while on routine patrol along the highway, discovered signs of an attempted kidnapping near Rice Mill in Nasarawa Eggon.
According to reports, the operatives observed that the road had been barricaded with stones by unknown armed young men suspected to be kidnappers, who had positioned themselves to attack unsuspecting motorists.
Upon sighting the police team, the suspects opened fire, prompting a swift and decisive response from the officers. In the ensuing exchange, one of the suspects was neutralised, while others fled into the surrounding bush, reportedly with gunshot wounds.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, the deceased suspect was later identified as Auta Habu, a resident of a Fulani settlement (Ruga) in Gidan Waya, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had been linked to several criminal activities in the area.
The police confirmed that the highway has since been cleared and is now safe for motorists and other road users. Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.
The Command has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
