National Assembly Reschedules Resumption of Plenary to October 7th

Abuja, Nigeria – September 23, 2025

The National Assembly has officially postponed the resumption of plenary sessions in both the Senate and House of Representatives. Originally scheduled to reconvene today, Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the new resumption date is now set for Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

This change was announced in a statement issued by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, who confirmed that the decision was made following directives from the leadership of both legislative chambers.
According to Ogunlana, the shift was necessitated by internal considerations, and the management of the National Assembly regrets any inconvenience caused by the change in schedule.
Despite the postponement of plenary sittings, the statement emphasized that committee activities will continue as planned, allowing lawmakers to carry on with oversight functions, investigations, and other legislative duties outside of plenary.

The National Assembly had embarked on its annual recess earlier this year and was initially expected to resume today. However, with the extension, legislative debates and formal sessions will now resume in early October.
No official reason was given for the postponement beyond procedural adjustments by the chambers.
Stakeholders, observers, and citizens will be watching closely as the new date approaches, particularly given the pressing legislative issues awaiting action upon resumption.
