NATIONAL GRID EXPERIENCES ANOTHER COLLAPSE

Abuja | January 2026

Nigeria’s national power grid has again experienced a system collapse, plunging several parts of the country into darkness. The incident occurred at about 10:48 a.m. on Tuesday, resulting in a nationwide loss of electricity supply.

Following the development, electricity distribution companies (DisCos) across the country issued statements to their customers, informing them of the grid collapse and the consequent outage. The DisCos assured consumers that efforts were underway to restore power supply as quickly as possible in collaboration with relevant stakeholders in the power sector.
The latest incident marks the second system collapse recorded in the month of January, raising renewed concerns over the stability and reliability of the national electricity infrastructure.

Power sector observers have continued to call for sustained investment and technical interventions to strengthen the grid and prevent recurrent collapses, as the outages negatively impact households, businesses, and overall economic activities nationwide.
Meanwhile, consumers have been advised to remain patient as engineers work to restore the grid and stabilize electricity supply across the country.
