NATIONAL SECURITY: DEFENCE MINISTRY STRENGTHENS COLLABORATION WITH NASRDA

The Minister of Defence, , has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the (NASRDA) to enhance space-based support for national security operations across the country.
General Musa made this known while receiving a delegation from NASRDA led by its Director General, , during a working visit to the Ship House, Abuja.
The Minister emphasized that proactive, intelligence-driven operations remain critical to defeating terrorism, banditry, and trans-border crimes. He noted that satellite-enabled surveillance, radar imaging, and signal analytics have become indispensable tools in modern security management.
According to him, improved space-based capabilities would significantly enhance situational awareness, help in identifying criminal routes and hideouts, and provide stronger operational support to troops on the frontline. He stressed that integrating advanced geospatial intelligence into military planning would enable more precise targeting and efficient deployment of resources.
General Musa further underscored the need for greater synergy between NASRDA and the (DSA) to ensure seamless integration of space assets into military operations. He noted that stronger institutional collaboration would reduce operational gaps and enhance Nigeria’s capacity to respond swiftly to emerging threats.
In his remarks, Dr. Adepoju highlighted Nigeria’s existing space capabilities and strategic international collaborations, which he said have positioned the country as a key player in Africa’s space sector. He disclosed that has approved the procurement process for additional satellites, including radar systems, to further strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
The NASRDA Director General also presented concepts for enhanced border surveillance and real-time intelligence support systems designed to improve environmental awareness and operational effectiveness. He explained that advanced radar satellites would provide all-weather imaging capabilities, ensuring continuous monitoring of remote and high-risk areas.
Both parties agreed that sustained collaboration between defence and space institutions is vital to leveraging innovation and technology in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
The renewed partnership is expected to bolster coordinated national security efforts and reinforce the country’s resolve to combat evolving security challenges through cutting-edge space technology.
