Lagos, Nigeria – September 14, 2024
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two individuals, Mrs. Adewunmi Adebola Dorcas, a businesswoman based in Ibadan, Oyo State, and Arinze Ora, an auto parts dealer, in connection with separate attempts to smuggle narcotics to London and Congo Brazzaville.

The arrests were made following the interception of drug consignments at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Friday, September 6, 2024. NDLEA operatives stationed at the airport’s export shed uncovered illicit drugs hidden in foodstuff cartons destined for the United Kingdom.

During a thorough search of the cargo, officers discovered 924 bottles of codeine-based syrup weighing 135.70kg and 5,250 tablets of Rohypnol, a tranquilizer commonly used in drug-related crimes. These substances were cleverly concealed within the cartons, but were detected before they could leave the country.

Mrs. Adewunmi Adebola Dorcas was apprehended for her role in attempting to send the codeine-laden shipment to London, while Arinze Ora was arrested in connection with an attempt to export cocaine to Congo Brazzaville.
Both suspects are currently in NDLEA custody and are expected to face prosecution for their involvement in drug trafficking. This case highlights the NDLEA’s continued efforts to crack down on illicit drug smuggling and ensure that Nigerian airports are not used as transit points for illegal substances.
The agency has reiterated its commitment to maintaining vigilance and preventing the export of dangerous drugs, while also warning potential traffickers of the serious legal consequences of such actions.
