NDLEA INTERCEPTS CHINESE WOMAN WITH ILLICIT DRUG CONSIGNMENT

LAGOS – MAY 24, 2026

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 63-year-old Chinese woman at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, for attempting to smuggle a large consignment of Canadian Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, into Nigeria.
The suspect was apprehended during a routine screening operation by NDLEA officials at the airport after intelligence reports and enhanced surveillance led to the discovery of the illicit substance concealed in her luggage.

The anti-narcotics agency said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect arrived in Nigeria aboard an international flight and was allegedly attempting to distribute the banned substance within the country.

In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives also intercepted a shipment of Tapentadol pills valued at over two-point-one billion Naira. The consignment, which was shipped into the country from India, was seized during a coordinated enforcement operation aimed at curbing the influx of dangerous pharmaceutical opioids into Nigeria.

The agency described the seizures as part of its sustained offensive against drug trafficking networks and the illegal distribution of narcotics and controlled substances across the country.

NDLEA officials reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening surveillance at airports, seaports, and border points to combat the activities of drug cartels and protect public health and national security.
The suspects and seized consignments are expected to undergo further investigation and legal processes in line with the provisions of the NDLEA Act.
