NEAZDP Yobe State Flags Off Malaria Prevention Drive Campaign Across Nine LGAs

Gashua, Yobe State , October 6, 2025

In a robust effort to accelerate integrated rural development and combat the persistent threat of malaria, the North East Arid Zone Development Programme (NEAZDP) of Yobe State, in collaboration with nine Local Government Areas (LGAs), has launched an extensive fumigation campaign targeting mosquito infestations.

The official flag-off ceremony took place in Gashua, where NEAZDP’s Programme Manager, Dr. Mulima Idi Mato, led the initiative by overseeing fumigation activities in key public areas including drainages, water receptacles, hospitals, and community centers. This targeted approach aims to significantly reduce the mosquito population and subsequently lower the high incidence of malaria in the region.
Following the launch in Gashua, the campaign is set to expand across the headquarters of the remaining LGAs within NEAZDP’s operational area, ensuring a wide-reaching impact on malaria prevention efforts.

The flag-off event was attended by prominent figures including the Executive Chairman of Bade LGA, represented by the Vice Chairman, along with the Council Secretary and members of the Environmental Health Office staff. NEAZDP personnel, community leaders, members of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), youth groups, and other stakeholders also actively participated in the ceremony.
A noteworthy highlight of the event was the involvement of the Bade Community Coalition, whose members played a significant role in supporting the fumigation efforts.

The malaria prevention drive will be extended to cover the LGAs of Bursari, Geidam, Jakusko, Karasuwa, Machina, Nguru, Yunusari, and Yusufari in the coming weeks, reinforcing NEAZDP’s commitment to safeguarding public health and enhancing the quality of life for residents across Yobe State.

This campaign marks a crucial step forward in tackling one of the most persistent health challenges in the region and exemplifies the power of collaborative efforts between government bodies, local communities, and development programs.
