NECO RELEASES 2025 SSCE EXTERNAL RESULTS; 86.26% MADE 5 CREDITS AND ABOVE

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, just 52 days after the conclusion of the final paper.

Announcing the release, the Registrar of NECO, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, disclosed that a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination across 16 subjects, out of which 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the papers.

According to the performance analysis, candidates recorded impressive outcomes in the examination. Prof. Wushishi revealed that 71.63 per cent of candidates obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. He further stated that 78.32 per cent of candidates earned credit passes in English Language, while 91.35 per cent achieved credit passes in Mathematics. Overall, 86.26 per cent of candidates secured five credits and above, irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.

On the issue of examination malpractice, the Registrar noted that 9,016 candidates were booked for various offences, representing a 31.7 per cent increase when compared to the 2024 SSCE External examination. He added that five supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo states were blacklisted for their roles in examination malpractice. In addition, four examination centres located in Niger, Yobe, and Kano states have been recommended for derecognition due to cases of mass cheating.


Prof. Wushishi explained that the examination was conducted between November 26 and December 13, 2025, while the marking exercise took place from January 5 to January 21, 2026. He described the timely release of the results as another milestone in NECO’s commitment to credible, efficient, and transparent assessment processes.

The Registrar expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support of the education sector, noting that such backing has strengthened the operations of the examination body. He also disclosed that outstanding debts owed to NECO by states currently stand at less than ₦2 billion.

He reaffirmed NECO’s resolve to uphold examination integrity while improving service delivery to candidates across the country.
