The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has deployed an Emergency Response Team (ERT) following an incident involving a passenger train travelling from Itakpe to Warri along the Agbor axis of Delta State.
The incident occurred on Monday, June 8, 2026, prompting an immediate response from the federal emergency management agency. According to NEMA, its Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, activated the agency’s emergency response mechanism shortly after receiving an alert regarding the situation.

In a statement issued by the agency, NEMA confirmed that an Emergency Response Team had been dispatched to the affected area to assess the situation and provide support to passengers involved in the incident.
The agency disclosed that the Director General has been in communication with the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to coordinate response efforts and ensure the safety and welfare of passengers.
“NEMA’s response team is collaborating with the NRC, security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to provide necessary assistance to the passengers, ensure their safety, and support ongoing operations,” the statement said.
While details surrounding the nature and cause of the incident were not immediately disclosed, authorities said efforts were ongoing to manage the situation and provide any required emergency assistance.
The development highlights the growing importance of coordinated emergency response mechanisms in Nigeria’s transportation sector, particularly as rail transportation continues to serve as a critical means of movement for passengers and goods across the country.
The Itakpe-Warri rail corridor is one of Nigeria’s major standard gauge railway routes, connecting parts of Kogi, Edo, and Delta states and facilitating both passenger and commercial activities.
As investigations and response operations continue, NEMA said it remains committed to working closely with relevant agencies to ensure the safety of affected passengers and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
