Nigeria Customs Deepens Global Push for Trade Innovation at Abu Dhabi Conference
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates | 2026
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to technology-driven border management and enhanced trade facilitation at the 2026 World Customs Organisation (WCO) Technology Conference held in Abu Dhabi.
Participating under the conference theme, “Customs Agility in a Complex World: Securing and Facilitating Trade through Innovation,” the Service highlighted its ongoing reforms focused on digitalisation, intelligence-led enforcement, and improved data exchange. These initiatives, the NCS noted, are designed to align Nigeria’s customs operations with global best practices while strengthening supply chain security and efficiency.
Addressing delegates, the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, underscored the importance of innovation and collaboration in responding to the growing complexity of international trade. He commended emerging global solutions showcased at the conference, including the United Arab Emirates’ digital humanitarian corridor, describing them as practical examples of how technology can support both security and trade facilitation.
Adeniyi further stressed that Nigeria’s modernisation agenda remains firmly anchored on strategic global partnerships, streamlined and transparent trade processes, and sustained capacity building for customs officers. According to him, these pillars are essential for ensuring that the Nigeria Customs Service remains responsive, agile, and effective in a rapidly evolving global trade environment.
The WCO Technology Conference brought together customs administrations, technology providers, and international stakeholders to exchange ideas and experiences on leveraging innovation to address modern border management challenges.
