NIGERIA / GERMANY DEEPENS STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

Nigeria and Germany have further strengthened their strategic partnership in a high-level meeting between the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, and German Ambassador Annett Günther. The discussions centered on multilateral cooperation, economic collaboration, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
Both sides emphasized enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in providing reciprocal support for United Nations Security Council candidacies and advancing UN reform initiatives.
Highlighting the progress made, Ambassador Günther praised the successful 2025 Bi-National Commission meeting as a key milestone in bilateral relations. She also acknowledged Nigeria’s backing of Germany’s 2024 bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. Germany reiterated its advocacy for increased African representation within the global body.
In response, Ambassador Dunoma Umar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to sustained diplomatic engagement and mutual support in multilateral forums. He further underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in infrastructural development, with a focus on energy transmission projects.
The meeting underscored the maturity and strategic depth of Nigeria-Germany relations, rooted in mutual respect and shared responsibilities on the global stage.
