NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE INAUGURATES ANTI-CORRUPTION UNIT – “ACTU”
Abuja, February 8, 2026
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has taken a significant step toward strengthening internal accountability with the nationwide inauguration of its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU).
Speaking at the inauguration, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, emphasized that corruption poses a serious threat to national security, hampers economic development, and undermines Nigeria’s credibility within the global community. She reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to integrity, assuring that the newly established ACTU desks across formations would be adequately equipped to promote transparency, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
According to the Comptroller-General, the introduction of ACTU aligns with the broader reform agenda of the Nigeria Immigration Service, aimed at entrenching accountability and restoring public confidence in its operations. She noted that officers entrusted with the responsibility must discharge their duties with diligence and courage, in line with the Service’s core values.
Also speaking at the event, a representative of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Olusegun Adigun, advised the nominated ACTU desk officers to maintain close collaboration with Service management. He stressed that such cooperation is essential to reinforcing accountability mechanisms, ethical standards, and transparency in daily operations.
The Nigeria Immigration Service stated that the inauguration of the ACTU desks represents a renewed determination to embed anti-corruption reforms not only in policy frameworks but in practical, day-to-day service delivery. The Service expressed optimism that the initiative would contribute to improved institutional integrity and more efficient migration management nationwide.
