Nigeria Meets 96% Of OPEC Quota In August; As Crude Oil Production Hits 1.63m bpd, Rises 5.5% Year-On-Year

Abuja, Nigeria – September 21, 2025
Nigeria’s upstream oil sector showed positive momentum in August 2025, with crude oil and condensate production averaging 1.63 million barrels per day (bpd), marking a 5.5% increase compared to August 2024’s output of 1.58 million bpd.

The figures were disclosed in the latest Crude Oil and Condensate Production Report for August 2025, released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). The data reflects a continued recovery in Nigeria’s oil production following years of underperformance due to security challenges, infrastructure deficits, and regulatory uncertainties.
According to the report, Nigeria produced 1.43 million bpd of crude oil in August 2025—up 5.47% from the 1.36 million bpd recorded in August 2024. The remaining volumes came from condensates, which are not subject to OPEC production quotas.

The improvement in crude output highlights a rebound in operational efficiency across the upstream sector, aided by increased security around key oil assets, resumed production from previously shut-in fields, and continued investment in production infrastructure.
Significantly, Nigeria achieved 96% of its OPEC quota in August, with its target set at 1.5 million bpd. This marks a substantial improvement in compliance and production stability, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment
