Nigeria Police Force Calls for End to Jungle Justice
In a recent statement released by the Nigeria Police Force, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the urgent need to collectively condemn the alarming trend of jungle justice in Nigeria. The statement comes in the wake of a disturbing incident where a security guard was arrested for resorting to jungle justice, further highlighting the dangers and implications of such actions.

Jungle justice, often described as taking the law into one’s hands, has been globally condemned for its adverse effects on the administration of justice and the rule of law. The practice poses a significant challenge to the criminal justice system, hindering the smooth dispensation of justice in various recorded cases across the country.
A recent incident reported by police operatives in Lagos State serves as a poignant example. Following a report of vandalism, a group of hoodlums was apprehended, leading to the arrest of one individual. Shockingly, the suspect was handed over to a security guard who subsequently resorted to fatal measures, resulting in the victim’s death. The guard has since been arrested and will face charges for murder.
The Nigeria Police Force vehemently condemns such acts of jungle justice and urges the public to refrain from engaging in mob actions and extrajudicial killings. ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi emphasized that jungle justice is not only a criminal act but also a grave violation of human rights. It perpetuates a cycle of violence, prejudice, and lawlessness, ultimately undermining the authority of legitimate institutions and weakening the rule of law.
Moreover, jungle justice fosters an environment of fear and injustice, breeding further violence and instability within communities. It is imperative that communities reject vigilantism and uphold the principles of democracy, human rights, and equality for all.
The Nigeria Police Force calls upon all stakeholders to work together in combating the menace of jungle justice. By upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served through fair and transparent legal processes, we can collectively strive towards a society where justice prevails and human rights are respected.
As echoed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, only through collective condemnation and concerted efforts can we eradicate the scourge of jungle justice and uphold the principles of a civilized society.
