Nigeria, UK Renew Commitment to Deepen Strategic Ties

London, United Kingdom — November 12, 2025

Nigeria and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration in areas that will deliver tangible benefits to the citizens of both nations. This renewed partnership was underscored during a meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and the British Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in London.

According to a statement by the Minister’s Media Aide, Alkasim Abdulkadir, discussions centered on strengthening cooperation between the two countries across shared priorities — including trade, investment, security, education, migration, and climate action.

Both ministers exchanged views on regional and global developments, explored new areas of economic partnership, and reviewed ongoing collaboration in defence and governance.
They further acknowledged the vital role of people-to-people connections and highlighted the significant contributions of the Nigerian diaspora in enhancing bilateral relations between Nigeria and the UK.

The visit forms part of Nigeria’s broader diplomatic efforts to advance mutual interests, promote sustainable development, and reinforce its longstanding partnerships on the global stage.
