Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare School Commissions New Sports Facilities to Promote Troop Fitness and Morale
Giri, Abuja – September 24, 2025
In a bold step to enhance troop welfare, fitness, and operational readiness, the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare School (NACWS), Giri, Abuja, has officially commissioned newly constructed basketball and volleyball courts within its premises. The commissioning ceremony, held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, aligns with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede’s soldier-first welfare philosophy.
The event was graced by the Special Guest of Honour, Major General Adeleke Adeniyi Ayannuga, who praised the initiative and commended both the COAS and the NACWS leadership for their commitment to improving the wellbeing of personnel. He noted the swift execution of the project, attributing its success to the support from Army Headquarters and the proactive leadership of the school.
In his keynote address, General Ayannuga emphasized the importance of physical fitness in cyber operations. “Cyber warriors must be physically strong, sharp, and operationally ready. These new basketball and volleyball courts are not just for recreation—they are tools for building discipline and resilience,” he stated.
The Commandant of NACWS, Brigadier General Jacob Hassan Bawa, expressed gratitude to the Army leadership and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to holistic soldier development. “The strength of a soldier is not limited to the keyboard. While we train in cyber operations, physical fitness remains a pillar of military effectiveness,” he remarked. He added that the new sports facilities would significantly enrich the training environment and foster camaraderie among personnel.
Also in attendance was the Commander of the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, Major General Mohammed Tanimu Abdullahi, alongside other senior officers and soldiers. The ceremony concluded with a group photograph to commemorate the milestone.
The commissioning marks another strategic achievement in the Nigerian Army’s broader efforts to provide top-tier infrastructure and welfare across its training institutions. By integrating physical training with cyber capabilities, the NACWS continues to set the pace for a modern, adaptive, and combat-ready Nigerian Army.
