Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Celebrate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary in Israel
Bethlehem & Nazareth, Israel – October 1, 2025
In a powerful display of patriotism and faith, Nigerian Christian pilgrims gathered in the historic cities of Nazareth and Bethlehem in Israel to celebrate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. The pilgrims, drawn from Imo, Abia, and Adamawa States, alongside consular representatives, marked the national milestone with fervent prayers, worship, and thanksgiving.
The commemorative events began in Nazareth, where the pilgrims held a special intercessory prayer session for Nigeria. The gathering sought divine intervention for peace, unity, and sustainable economic growth in the country. Special prayers were offered for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, state governors, and other national leaders, asking for wisdom and direction as they steer the nation forward.
Leading the spiritual reflections, Rt. Rev. Dr. Manasses Okere, Anglican Bishop of Ukwa Diocese, emphasized the critical role of unity in Nigeria’s development. Quoting Psalm 133:1 — “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” — Bishop Okere urged Nigerians at home and abroad to uphold peace and brotherhood in their everyday lives.
“This moment reminds us that despite our differences, we are one people, bound by a shared destiny and a common hope for a better Nigeria,” Bishop Okere said. “As we stand on holy ground in Israel, we believe our prayers will resonate back home and inspire positive change.”
In Bethlehem, the pilgrims continued their celebration with a vibrant praise and worship session, transforming the atmosphere into one of joy and reflection. The group also toured biblical landmarks, drawing spiritual strength from their experiences.
The celebration not only marked Nigeria’s independence but also highlighted the spiritual dimension of nation-building. For many of the pilgrims, it was a moment to renew their hope in Nigeria and reaffirm their commitment to being agents of change.
This unique independence celebration by Nigerian pilgrims in the Holy Land stands as a reminder of the enduring power of faith, unity, and collective purpose in shaping a stronger, more prosperous nation.
