NIGERIAN NAVY RESTATES COMMITMENT TO MARITIME SECURITY

The has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to strengthening maritime security as part of efforts to boost business activities and enhance crude oil production across the country.
This assurance was given by the Commander of (NNS Victory), Commodore Ajomabi Oride, during his Passing Out Parade and handing-over ceremony held in Calabar.
Commodore Oride emphasized that the Navy remains resolute in providing the maritime sector with the security architecture required to ensure uninterrupted commercial activities, safeguard critical national assets, and support Nigeria’s crude oil production.
According to him, the maritime sector plays a strategic role in Nigeria’s economic growth, serving as a gateway for international trade and a backbone for the nation’s oil and gas industry. He noted that protecting the nation’s territorial waters and maritime infrastructure remains a core responsibility of the Navy.
Oba Hycent reports that the ceremony also featured a formal change of command at the Navy Command in Calabar. During the event, Commodore Ajomabi Oride, the 28th Commander, officially handed over leadership to Commodore Shuaib Ahmed, who becomes the 29th Commander of the Command.
The symbolic and administrative transition was marked by the signing of two key documents, formalizing the handing over and taking over of command. The ceremony signified another important chapter in the Command’s history, underscoring continuity, discipline, and professionalism within the Nigerian Navy.
In his remarks, the outgoing commander expressed gratitude to officers and ratings for their cooperation and dedication throughout his tenure. He urged them to extend the same loyalty and support to his successor to ensure sustained operational efficiency.
The incoming commander, Commodore Shuaib Ahmed, pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor and further strengthen maritime security operations within the command’s area of responsibility.
The event was attended by senior naval officers, government officials, and other dignitaries, highlighting the significance of the maritime sector in Nigeria’s overall economic stability and national security framework.
