Nigerian Red Cross Deploys Emergency Teams Following Train Derailment in Delta State

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has mobilized emergency response teams to the scene of a train derailment in Agbor, Delta State, as rescue efforts continue to support affected passengers and provide medical assistance to the injured.

The Delta State Branch of the humanitarian organization confirmed that its volunteers were deployed immediately after the incident to carry out search and rescue operations, administer first aid, and provide psychosocial support to passengers affected by the derailment.

According to the Branch Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Delta State Branch, Mr. Charles Arinomor, Red Cross volunteers arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and began coordinated emergency interventions alongside railway personnel, members of the local community, and other relevant stakeholders.

Arinomor stated that the rapid response operation has already recorded significant progress, with stranded passengers successfully evacuated from the accident scene and transported to Agbor town to facilitate their onward journeys.

He further disclosed that passengers who sustained injuries during the incident were evacuated and taken to Agbor Central Hospital, where they are receiving medical attention.

“The response team successfully executed search and rescue operations, immediate first-aid management, and the provision of Psychosocial Support (PSS) to affected individuals,” he said.

The train derailment triggered an emergency response involving multiple agencies and stakeholders, underscoring the importance of coordinated disaster management and humanitarian intervention during transportation-related emergencies.

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, one of the country’s foremost humanitarian organizations, regularly partners with government agencies and emergency responders during disasters, accidents, disease outbreaks, and other humanitarian crises.

While authorities continue to assess the full impact of the derailment, the Red Cross reaffirmed its commitment to supporting affected passengers and their families throughout the recovery process.

The organization said it would continue working closely with state authorities, emergency services, and relevant agencies to provide relief, medical assistance, and emotional support to those impacted by the incident.

As investigations into the cause of the derailment continue, emergency responders remain on the ground to ensure the safety and welfare of passengers and facilitate ongoing recovery efforts.
