NIGERIANS ASSURED OF PROMPT MEDICAL EMERGENCY SERVICES
Abuja, Nigeria – October 18, 2025
In a renewed commitment to strengthening the country’s healthcare delivery system, the National Blood Service Commission (NBSC) and the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) have jointly reaffirmed the Federal Government’s pledge to provide free and timely emergency medical services to all Nigerians.
According to the two agencies, every Nigerian is entitled to receive emergency medical treatment—at no cost—for the first 48 hours following any emergency, regardless of their location or socioeconomic status. This life-saving initiative is part of the government’s broader goal of creating a responsive and inclusive healthcare system.
At the core of this initiative is NEMSAS, a national platform designed to coordinate emergency medical responses across the country. The system provides a centralized and efficient approach to emergency care delivery by integrating services across both public and private healthcare providers. It ensures that vulnerable populations, especially those unable to pay upfront, are not left behind in critical situations.
NEMSAS is expected to improve response times, streamline treatment protocols, and facilitate quick access to medical attention during emergencies. The inclusion of both government and private hospitals under the program guarantees nationwide coverage and accessibility.
The NBSC emphasized the importance of community awareness and participation, encouraging citizens to take full advantage of the services provided. Nigerians are urged to familiarize themselves with emergency numbers and the nearest participating healthcare facilities to better prepare in times of crisis.
This initiative underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to health equity and emergency preparedness, aiming to save lives and reduce the burden of emergency care costs for citizens.
Nigerians are therefore urged to make use of this vital service now available in both public and private hospitals across the nation.
