NIMC Sets for Nationwide Ward-Level NIN Enrollment Initiative
Abuja, February 12, 2026
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced plans to commence ward-level enrolment for the National Identification Number (NIN) across the country as part of efforts to expand access to identity registration services.
In a statement issued by the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Kayode Adegoke, the Commission disclosed that the exercise will begin next week in line with a presidential directive to take NIN registration to the grassroots.
According to the statement, the enrolment exercise is free of charge and is targeted at registering all Nigerians and legal residents, including children, into the National Identity Database. The Commission emphasized that the initiative underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible person is captured in the national identity system.
NIMC explained that the ward-level enrolment programme is designed to decentralise its services, improve accessibility, and significantly reduce the burden of travel for citizens who previously had to journey long distances to registration centres.
The Commission further informed the public that detailed ward enrolment schedules have been published on its official website. Members of the public are also encouraged to contact NIMC’s toll-free line for additional enquiries and guidance regarding the registration process.
The Commission reassured Nigerians of its readiness to ensure a smooth and seamless enrolment process nationwide, urging eligible individuals to take advantage of the opportunity to obtain their NIN.
