Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning to Nigerians to brace for an increase in both the frequency and intensity of rainfall in July.

In a statement released by the agency, NiMet forecasted that the northern and north-central states will experience particularly heavy rainfall. “Rainfall is expected to increase both in frequency and intensity, especially over the north and north central states; while a combination of intermittent and continuous rains should persist over the southern cities,” the statement read.
This weather alert comes as part of NiMet’s ongoing efforts to provide timely and accurate weather information to help citizens and relevant authorities prepare for and mitigate the effects of severe weather conditions.
Residents in the affected regions are advised to take necessary precautions, including ensuring proper drainage around their homes, staying informed through weather updates, and avoiding flood-prone areas during heavy rains. Local authorities are also urged to enhance their preparedness and response plans to address potential flooding and other related emergencies.
NiMet’s alert underscores the importance of weather awareness and community preparedness as the country enters a period of heightened rainfall activity.
