NIS Introduces New Update to Aid Applicants’ Passport Tracking
Abuja, January 15, 2026
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has introduced a new update to its passport tracking system aimed at improving service delivery and reducing delays in passport collection.
The Service disclosed that a significant number of passports produced in recent months remained uncollected, a situation that has led to increasing complaints from applicants across the country. In response, the NIS has enhanced its existing tracking platform to ensure applicants are better informed about the status of their passports.
The newly added feature, tagged “PRODUCED (PASSPORT PRODUCED, READY FOR COLLECTION)”, notifies applicants once their passports have been successfully produced and are ready for collection. This update applies to both physical collection at designated passport offices and passports produced but pending delivery through courier services.
According to the Service, the enhancement is designed to promote transparency and efficiency by enabling applicants to track clear timelines for passports that have been produced and are awaiting collection or delivery. It also helps to minimize congestion at passport offices and ensures that completed passports are promptly picked up.
The Nigeria Immigration Service reaffirmed its commitment to deploying efficient, technology-driven systems that serve the needs of Nigerians at home and abroad. The Service noted that the update aligns with global best practices and its broader mandate to continuously improve service delivery through innovation.
Applicants are encouraged to regularly check the passport tracking portal to stay informed about the status of their applications and take timely action once notified that their passports are ready.
