NNPC Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to national development beyond the energy sector, as it participated in the launch of the National Community Food Bank Trust Fund and the inauguration of its Board of Trustees at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The initiative, spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, is designed to provide sustainable access to healthy and nutritious food for vulnerable citizens. The programme also aims to strengthen community-based nutrition systems and restore hope among disadvantaged populations across the country.
Representing the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, at the event, the Executive Vice President, Business Services, Sophia Mbakwe, described the initiative as a reflection of collective responsibility toward improving the welfare of Nigerians.
She emphasized that the programme represents “a shared national commitment to the well-being of the most vulnerable citizens of our nation,” highlighting the importance of collaboration between government and corporate organizations in addressing social challenges.
Mbakwe further noted that the initiative aligns with NNPC Ltd.’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, which focuses on supporting programmes that enhance livelihoods and promote social stability nationwide.
The National Community Food Bank Programme is expected to play a critical role in tackling food insecurity while fostering stronger community support systems across Nigeria.
