No Timetable Released Yet for 2027 General Election — INEC
Abuja — January 2, 2026
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked reports circulating in some quarters claiming that the Commission has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election.
In a statement issued on Thursday, INEC described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that no official timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election has been released by the Commission.
“The Commission wishes to state clearly that this information is false and misleading. INEC has not released any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election,” the statement read.
INEC reiterated that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law guiding Nigeria’s electoral process. The Commission drew attention to Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which stipulates that a Notice of Election must be published not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election. According to INEC, any timetable or schedule issued outside this legal framework cannot originate from the Commission.
The electoral body assured Nigerians that the official Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election will be released in due course and in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), as well as the Electoral Act, 2022.
INEC further stated that when the timetable is eventually released, it will be communicated through its established and verified channels to ensure accuracy and public confidence.
The Commission urged members of the public and the media to disregard the fake reports and rely solely on INEC’s official platforms for authentic and authoritative information regarding the electoral process.
The statement was e-signed by Adedayo Oketola,
Chief Press Secretary / Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman.
