NPF ANNOUNCES 2026 NATIONAL POLICE DAY CELEBRATIONS THEMED “COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP: BUILDING TRUST”

Abuja, Nigeria — March 24, 2026
The Nigeria Police Force has officially announced the commencement of the 2026 National Police Day celebrations, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”
The announcement followed a formal press briefing held on March 23, 2026, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Acting on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, outlined a week-long lineup of activities scheduled to begin on Monday, March 30, 2026, and conclude with a grand finale on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
This year’s theme reflects the Force’s renewed commitment to fostering stronger collaboration with the public, enhancing transparency and building sustainable trust as the foundation for effective and community-driven policing.
To ensure the successful execution of the national event, an organising committee has been constituted, chaired by Akoh Benedict Gabriel, with DCP Anthony Okon Placid serving as Committee Secretary. The committee includes senior officers drawn from key operational departments such as the FCID, PMF, EOD-CBRN and Medical Services.
The schedule of activities includes nationwide environmental sanitation exercises and free medical outreach on March 30, targeting vulnerable groups across communities. This will be followed on March 31 by a National Walkathon in state capitals aimed at promoting unity and strengthening police-community relations.
On April 1, public sensitisation campaigns will be conducted nationwide, focusing on the dangers of electoral violence and the importance of safe driving practices. Activities on April 2 will honour fallen officers, with the presentation of cheques to their families at the Force Headquarters and across state commands.
The celebrations will culminate in a grand finale on April 7 at the Eagle Square, Abuja, featuring a ceremonial parade and tactical displays by specialised units including the Police Mobile Force, K-9 Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), showcasing the operational readiness of the Force.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to people-centred policing anchored on trust and mutual respect, while calling on community leaders, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to actively participate in the scheduled activities.
