In a remarkable achievement, Ogun State has emerged as the leading state in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), with eight students securing positions among the top 12 candidates nationwide.

Umeh Nkechinyere, representing Ogun State, clinched the top spot with an outstanding score of 360, followed closely by Ositade Anthony, also from Ogun State, with an impressive score of 358. Aguele Osezuha from Edo State shares the second position with 358 marks, while Gbolahan Ayinde from Ogun State secured a score of 357.
The other outstanding performers include John Ibhanfiodon (Lagos) with 356, Duruji Ugonna (Ogun) with 355, Adesanya Oluwajomiloju (Ogun) with 355, Shittu Adedunni (Ogun) with 355, Afenisumen Oluwagbemisoke (Ogun) with 355, Adetunji Adewale (Oyo) with 355, Ofonime Idongesit (Rivers) with 355, and Imoukhuede Onayeme (Ogun) with 355.
The impressive performance of these students reflects the commitment of the Ogun State government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, to enhance the quality of education in the state.
Since assuming office, the Abiodun administration has implemented various measures aimed at improving educational standards. Notably, the introduction of a free education policy, coupled with the cancellation of all forms of levies in public primary and secondary schools, has significantly increased access to education and reduced the number of out-of-school children in the state.
Furthermore, the governor’s approval for the employment of 5,000 Ogun State Teach Experience Acquisition Channel (OgunTEACH) interns has addressed the shortage of teaching staff in primary, secondary, and technical colleges across the state.
To enhance learning environments, 42 public secondary schools were upgraded and designated as Flagship Schools, while the provision of 25,000 tables and chairs has improved infrastructure in schools.
The implementation of a Learner Identification Number (LIN) system ensures effective monitoring of academic progress and educational history, contributing to improved security and accountability within the education sector.
Governor Abiodun’s administration has also prioritized the regular payment of running cost grants to public primary and secondary schools, along with rigorous monitoring and quality control measures to enhance teaching and learning processes.
With these concerted efforts, Ogun State continues to set the standard for educational excellence, producing top-performing students who excel in national examinations like the UTME.
