Ojumele-Ajegunle Road Damage: Human Error, Not Project Deficiency, Says Ogun Governor’s Aide

The recent damage to the newly constructed road at Ojumele-Ajegunle in Makun-Sagamu, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, has been attributed to human error rather than project deficiency, according to Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media to Governor Dapo Abiodun.

In a press statement released in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Akinmade clarified that the collector drainage for stormwater in the area became silted up due to indiscriminate refuse disposal. This, coupled with the construction of a cover slab on the drain by a car wash owner without adequate engineering guidance, resulted in the overflow of water during a heavy downpour on Sunday.

Akinmade emphasized that the damage had nothing to do with the quality of the road, contrary to some media reports. He highlighted the swift response of appropriate authorities to the situation, with repair work already underway to address the issue.

“While the State Government is greatly saddened by the development, going by the inconveniences it will cause to the residents and given resources expended on the project for the benefit of the inhabitants; we, however, want to categorically state that the damage has nothing to do with the quality of the road, contrary to what some sections of the media mischievously reported,” the statement read.

Furthermore, Akinmade reassured residents that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration remains committed to the development of quality roads across the state and will continue its efforts to evenly develop the state without blemish.

The statement concluded by expressing regret for any inconvenience caused to residents and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that such incidents do not recur in the future through proper engineering and maintenance measures.
