Olukoyede Urges OSOPADEC Board and Management to Uphold Fiscal Accountability, Integrity in Service
Akure, Ondo State — Wednesday, October 22, 2025
The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on the newly inaugurated board members and management staff of the Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) to uphold the highest standards of fiscal accountability in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking through Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Williams Oseghale, at a sensitization session in Akure titled “Safeguarding the Commission Against Corrupt Practices,” Olukoyede urged the officials to let integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration guide their operations.
“If we discharge our duties with integrity, courage and professionalism, there will be no issues whatsoever. It is my sincere belief that if every board member and management staff of OSOPADEC uphold these values strictly, the Commission will in no distant time transform into a foremost agency that the state will be proud of,” Olukoyede said.
He emphasized that fiscal accountability is a cornerstone in the fight against corruption, describing it as the proper allocation and utilization of financial resources in ways that are efficient, effective, and purpose-driven. According to him, the integrity of institutions depends largely on how individuals within them embrace responsibility and transparency.
“The onus is on us as individuals to be accountable, transparent and committed to due process. We enjoin board members, top management and staff to be foot soldiers in the task of safeguarding institutions against corrupt practices,” he added.
Olukoyede further encouraged OSOPADEC personnel to act as whistleblowers, reporting any acts of compromise that fall short of ethical standards.
“The mantra in this regard is, when you see something, you must say something — and the EFCC will do something. This obligation is now made easier through the EFCC’s Eagle Eye application, a digital platform that allows for anonymous reporting of suspicious activities,” he explained.
The EFCC Chairman reaffirmed the Commission’s unwavering commitment to eradicating corruption and financial crimes in Nigeria. Since its establishment in 2003, the EFCC, he said, has recorded remarkable successes in investigation, prosecution, and prevention of economic crimes.
Olukoyede cited notable milestones such as the convictions of former governors, bank executives, senior security officers, and public officials; the forfeiture of 753 duplex units in Abuja; and the deportation of 192 foreign nationals implicated in cybercrime and money laundering in Lagos.
“These are clear indications that we are determined to win the war against corruption — no matter how long it may take,” he asserted.
In their responses, Professor Tomola M. Obamuyi, the programme facilitator, and Prince Olaleye Poroye Olabiyi, Executive Chairman of OSOPADEC, both commended the EFCC’s leadership for the lecture. They described it as insightful, timely, and invaluable in strengthening institutional transparency within the Commission.
