Lagos, Nigeria – Tobi Sijuade has secured his place in the upcoming Paris Olympics, where he will represent Nigeria in the men’s 50m Freestyle swimming event.

Sijuade, who previously helped Team Nigeria clinch a Bronze medal in the men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay at the African Games in Ghana, continues to build on his impressive track record. The 22-year-old Health and Exercise Science graduate from the University of Bath will be Nigeria’s sole swimmer in Paris, marking a significant milestone as only the 11th Nigerian to qualify for swimming at the Olympics.
This achievement also signifies the first time in history that Nigeria has qualified for three consecutive Olympic Games in swimming. Previous qualifiers include Samson Opuakpo and Rachael Tonjor in 2016, Abiola Ogunbanwon in 2021, and now Tobi Sijuade in 2024.
Sijuade’s qualification not only highlights his personal dedication and skill but also underscores the growing presence and potential of Nigerian athletes in international swimming competitions.
