OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA: TROOPS ELIMINATE TERRORISTS, RESCUE 62 HOSTAGES IN COORDINATED OPERATIONS
Kebbi and Zamfara States, North West Nigeria, 21 January 2026
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, operating under Sector 2, have recorded significant operational successes with the neutralization of terrorists in Kebbi State and the rescue of 62 kidnapped victims in Zamfara State. The coordinated operations were conducted in close collaboration with allied security agencies and local vigilante groups, underscoring a united and determined approach to combating banditry and terrorism in the North West region.
In Kebbi State, troops acting on actionable intelligence laid a successful ambush against members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group along the border axis between Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State and Binji Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The operation, carried out at Kerani Village, resulted in the elimination of two terrorists. During the encounter, troops recovered two motorcycles used by the insurgents. The neutralized terrorists were found wearing camouflage uniforms, and the motorcycles were padded with thick blankets and fitted with equipment designed for long-range movement, including hand tyre pumps—clear indicators of their intent to sustain prolonged criminal activities.
In a separate but equally decisive operation in Zamfara State, troops stormed Munhaye Forest, a known hideout of the notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Alti. The operation followed credible intelligence reports indicating that several captives were being held in the forest. The mission culminated in the successful rescue of 62 kidnapped victims, who are currently in safe custody. Efforts are ongoing to ensure their medical evaluation and reunite them with their families.
These successful operations highlight the relentless commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and its partners to dismantling terrorist and bandit networks, restoring peace, and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens across the North West.
