Oyebanji Strengthens Regional Security Collaboration

Ekiti State Hosts Inaugural Meeting of Security Advisers from Neighboring States

Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria – In a bid to bolster regional security, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji convened a groundbreaking meeting on Thursday with special advisers on security from neighboring states, including Ondo, Kogi, Kwara, and Osun. The meeting, aimed at enhancing cooperation and safeguarding lives and property, was held at the Bawa Lodge within the Ekiti State Government House.

Chaired by Brigadier-General Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd.), Special Adviser on Security to the Ekiti State Governor, the session brought together key security officials such as Mr. Olugbenga Atiba (Ondo State), Commander Jerry Omodara (Kogi State), Brigadier Samuel Ojo (Rtd.) (Osun State), and Brigadier General S.T. Bello (Kwara State). The Director General of Jomeland Security in Ekiti State, Dr. Adetunberu Oludotun, served as Secretary.

Ogundana explained that Governor Oyebanji had initiated the meeting in response to increasing trans-border insecurity. He underscored the necessity of cross-state collaboration, particularly in addressing crimes where offenders exploit state borders to evade prosecution.

“Intelligence-sharing is key to combating inter-border criminal activities and ensuring the safety of our residents,” Ogundana stated. He added that the inaugural meeting marked the start of continuous collaboration among the states, with future meetings set to include local governments in border areas to enhance cooperation.

Security efforts are also being ramped up across Ekiti, particularly in farm settlements. Ogundana noted that this would encourage farmers to return to their activities, thereby promoting food security. “Without adequate security, there will be no investment, and we have seen significant interest from agro investors in Ekiti,” he remarked.

Addressing concerns over food insecurity and conflicts between herdsmen and farmers, Ogundana expressed confidence that such issues would not recur, given the proactive measures in place.

Residents were urged to go about their daily activities without fear of kidnapping, as the state government remains committed to creating a secure and investor-friendly environment.

The security collaboration will continue with regular meetings, both in-person and virtual, to stay ahead of emerging threats.
