PDP Elects Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as National Chairman at Ibadan Convention
IBADAN, OYO STATE — (17 November 2025)
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has elected former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), as its new National Chairman. His emergence followed the withdrawal of his opponent, Senator Yakubu Lado, who stepped down shortly before voting commenced at the party’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The peaceful transition was welcomed by delegates and party leaders, who described the development as a positive sign for unity and internal cohesion ahead of major political engagements.
In his acceptance remarks, Turaki called on all party members to put aside their differences and work together for the collective progress of the PDP. He emphasized the need for reconciliation and renewed dedication to strengthening the party’s structures nationwide.
“We must bury the hatchet and join hands for the overall success of our great party,” he said, assuring members that his leadership would prioritize inclusiveness, reforms, and strategic planning.
Grace Ayanleke reports that party stakeholders expressed optimism that the new leadership will reposition the PDP and reinforce its role in Nigeria’s democratic process.
