PDP Governors Condemn Wike’s Threats as Reckless and Unwarranted
The governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have issued a strong rebuke against Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), condemning his recent threats as irresponsible and unwarranted.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the PDP Governors’ Forum, led by its Chairman, Senator Bala Abdulkarim Mohamed, the Governor of Bauchi State, the forum expressed deep concern over Wike’s comments, which they described as a significant threat to the unity and peaceful coexistence within the party.

The statement, signed by the forum’s Director General, Emmanuel Agbo, read: “The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) under the chairmanship of H.E. Senator Bala Abdulkarim Mohamed (CON) and Governor of Bauchi State and all the member-governors has been drawn to a widely circulating news story in which the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, H.E. Barrister Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Rivers State, made scathing and threatening comments regarding member-governors of the forum and notes the significant concerns that have been raised in the public space regarding the unity and peaceful coexistence within our party.”
The forum characterized Wike’s statements as “unbridled, irresponsible, and without ambiguity unacceptable,” arguing that they undermine efforts to foster peace, cohesion, collaboration, and mutual respect among party leaders and members. The statement further expressed disappointment that such comments were made by someone who once benefitted from the support of the forum during his tenure as governor.
The governors emphasized their commitment to maintaining the established practices within the PDP, which aim to ensure order and prevent conflicting loyalties, particularly in states like Rivers, where Wike previously served as governor. They reaffirmed their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, asserting that he should be granted all the privileges due to him as a governor elected on the PDP platform.
“We are irrevocably committed to working with the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great party, the PDP, in ensuring that Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State is conferred with all the privileges he is entitled to as a governor elected on the platform of our party, both at the state and national levels,” the statement concluded.
The forum’s strong stance highlights the growing tensions within the PDP, as party leaders strive to maintain unity and discipline in the face of internal disagreements.
