POLICE ARREST SIX IN BENUE STATE AFTER DEADLY ATTACK ON TACTICAL TEAMS BY ARMED MILITIAS

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of six suspects following a deadly ambush on its tactical teams in Benue State by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias. The violent assault occurred at Agu Centre in Katsina-Ala and parts of Ukum Local Government Areas, resulting in the tragic loss of three police officers. Seven other officers remain missing as search operations continue.

In an official statement released today, the Force disclosed that the suspects currently in custody are undergoing interrogation and have begun providing critical information that may aid in further arrests and the recovery of missing personnel.
Leading the ongoing operations is the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, who is overseeing both the manhunt for the fleeing attackers and the search-and-rescue mission for the missing officers. Additional tactical reinforcements have been deployed to the affected areas to restore stability and security.
Reacting to the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, strongly condemned the attack, labeling it a “cruel, unwarranted, and direct affront on the peace-loving people of Benue State.” He assured the public that all perpetrators would be brought to justice and vowed that “no stone will be left unturned” in the ongoing effort to dismantle the criminal networks behind the attacks.
The IGP also called for calm among residents and urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by sharing timely information that could assist in tracking down those responsible.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the missing officers are alive, but efforts to locate them continue with urgency.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of communities across Benue and the country at large.
