The Nasarawa State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against kidnapping and violent crimes, following the successful raid of a suspected kidnappers’ hideout and the arrest of a suspect in the state.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), acting on credible intelligence, stormed a criminal hideout at Gidan Akuya Village in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The statement revealed that upon sighting the operatives, members of the criminal gang attempted to flee the scene but were swiftly pursued by the police, leading to the arrest of a 43-year-old suspect identified as Jibril Yunusa.
A thorough search of the hideout led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine, and a locally fabricated rifle.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to participating in several kidnapping operations within the Keana and Awe axis of the state and has provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed security operatives to intensify efforts to track down and apprehend other fleeing members of the gang to ensure they are brought to justice.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the fight against criminal elements and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
