The has confirmed that 33 persons lost their lives following a deadly armed cattle rustling incident that occurred on February 18, 2025, in Bui District of Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, , the Command disclosed that the attack was carried out by suspected Lakurawa armed militants who reportedly crossed into Bui District from Gudu Local Government Area in Sokoto State.
According to the police, the assailants launched an assault on the community, leading to widespread panic and destruction. Local residents reportedly mobilized in an attempt to repel the attackers, resulting in a fatal confrontation that claimed 33 lives.
The Command stated that security agencies, in collaboration with the Nigerian Military, have intensified operations in the affected area.
Additional security personnel have been deployed to restore normalcy and ensure the safety of residents.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attackers infiltrated the district through routes linking Bui District with neighboring Gudu Local Government Area, heightening concerns over cross-border criminal activities in the region.
The Police Command expressed its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Arewa community, assuring them that decisive measures are being taken to bring those responsible to justice.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements to security agencies.
