Police Seal Church in Lagos Over Alleged Murder of LASU Graduate

The Lagos State Police Command has sealed a church following allegations that a 28-year-old graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), Adedamola Ogunbode, was killed and buried on its premises. Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Lagos State Command, confirmed the development on Monday during a briefing with journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja.
Hundeyin explained that the church was sealed to prevent it from being set on fire by aggrieved individuals seeking vengeance. “The church was sealed following intelligence reports that some people planned to burn it down out of vengeance, and we don’t want that to happen,” he said. He added that the church remains a suspected crime scene and that investigators may need to revisit it multiple times to gather evidence.
“It is still a suspected crime scene. We still need to go over it, and we may need to revisit the scene multiple times to gather evidence,” Hundeyin stated. He assured the public that updates on the investigation would be provided as it progresses.
So far, three suspects have been arrested and detained in connection with the alleged killing. The police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding Ogunbode’s death and the role of the church in the incident.
Adedamola Ogunbode, a recent LASU graduate, was reported missing before allegations emerged that he had been killed and buried on the church premises. The case has sparked outrage among residents and the victim’s family, who are demanding justice.
The sealing of the church underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the need to preserve the crime scene for forensic analysis. The police are working to ensure that the investigation is comprehensive and that all those involved in the crime are brought to justice.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of individuals in religious and communal settings. It also highlights the importance of thorough investigations and the need for law enforcement agencies to act swiftly to address allegations of criminal activities.
As the investigation continues, the Lagos State Police Command has urged the public to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. Hundeyin emphasized that the police are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and his family.
The case has drawn widespread attention, with many calling for transparency and accountability in the investigation. The police have assured the public that they will provide regular updates as new information emerges.
The sealing of the church and the arrest of suspects mark a critical step in the investigation, but many questions remain unanswered. The police are expected to conduct a detailed forensic examination of the church premises and interview witnesses to piece together the events leading to Ogunbode’s alleged killing.
The incident serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and cooperation between the public and law enforcement agencies to combat crime and ensure the safety of all citizens.
