The Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Michał Cygan, has described Nigeria as a stabilising force in the West African sub-region, commending the critical role played by the Nigerian Armed Forces—particularly the Nigerian Air Force—in counter-insurgency operations and regional security efforts.
The commendation was made during an official courtesy visit by the Ambassador to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Ambassador Cygan praised the professionalism, resilience, and operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Armed Forces despite persistent security challenges. He noted that Nigeria’s strategic position and sustained security engagements continue to make a significant contribution to peace and stability across the West African region.
The Polish envoy also expressed Poland’s interest in exploring practical avenues for bilateral defence cooperation, aimed at supporting Nigeria’s security priorities and strengthening institutional collaboration between both countries.
According to him, enhanced defence partnerships would not only bolster Nigeria’s counter-insurgency capabilities but also promote shared security interests and regional stability.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, underscored the importance of strategic international partnerships in addressing contemporary and asymmetric security threats. He emphasized that the Nigerian Air Force remains committed to leveraging cooperation with friendly nations to enhance operational effectiveness, capacity development, and information sharing.

Air Marshal Aneke reaffirmed the Service’s openness to mutually beneficial partnerships that strengthen counter-insurgency operations and contribute to both regional and global security objectives.
The visit further highlighted the growing diplomatic and defence relations between Nigeria and Poland, anchored on shared values of peace, security, and international cooperation.
