President Tinubu Appoints Professor Jega as Special Adviser

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as Special Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform.

The announcement was made on Friday, with President Tinubu expressing optimism that Jega’s leadership will drive meaningful progress in the livestock sector and further strengthen national development efforts.

Professor Jega, a former Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, co-chaired the Presidential Livestock Committee with President Tinubu. The committee delivered comprehensive recommendations aimed at sustainable livestock reforms, including the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development, which now has a substantive minister.

“Professor Jega’s appointment is a testament to his proven track record in leadership and his commitment to national development. His role will be pivotal in implementing the reforms necessary to transform Nigeria’s livestock sector,” President Tinubu stated.

Jega, 68, is a member of the International Elections Advisory Council and serves as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State. He served as INEC Chairman between 2010 and 2015, overseeing the 2015 general elections, which were widely acclaimed for their credibility and transparency.

His appointment as Special Adviser to President Tinubu is expected to reinforce the gains of the Presidential Livestock Committee and ensure the continued momentum of the reforms already in motion.
