PRESIDENT TINUBU CELEBRATES DIG CECILIA UGOWE (RTD) AT 90
Abuja – Tuesday, December 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm birthday felicitations to Mrs. Cecilia Adebisi Ugowe, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), as she marks her 90th birthday today.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President described Mrs. Ugowe as a pioneering figure whose distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force significantly expanded opportunities for women and strengthened professionalism at a time when the institution was overwhelmingly male-dominated.
President Tinubu praised the retired police chief for consistently breaking barriers throughout her career. In 1968, she attained the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police, an exceptional achievement for a woman in that era. She went on to make history as the first female Commissioner of Police, the first female Assistant Inspector General of Police, and the first woman to serve as Force Secretary.
According to the President, Mrs. Ugowe’s trailblazing achievements remain a source of inspiration to generations of women in public service and law enforcement.
“As she marks this significant milestone, I commend her lifetime of service and wish her continued good health, peace, and fulfillment,” President Tinubu said.
He further acknowledged her enduring legacy as a symbol of dedication, courage, and excellence in national service.
