PRESIDENT TINUBU CELEBRATES FORMER PRESIDENT OLUSEGUN OBASANJO AT 89TH BIRTHDAY

President has celebrated former President and elder statesman, , on the occasion of his 89th birthday on March 5, 2026.
In a statement issued by , Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, President Tinubu rejoiced with Chief Obasanjo, noting that his towering influence in Nigeria, across Africa, and beyond remains significant and enduring.
The President acknowledged the courage and sacrifices of the elder statesman, who previously served the nation as military Head of State from 1976 to 1979, during which he handed over power to a civilian president in 1979. He later returned to lead the country as the first civilian president of the Fourth Republic from 1999 to 2007.
President Tinubu affirmed the historic experiences of the former leader, including his role in leading troops to preserve Nigeria’s unity at the warfront, his imprisonment for speaking out against tyranny, and his consistent pursuit of Africa’s political and economic interests on the global stage.
As Chief Obasanjo turns 89, President Tinubu acknowledged the zeal and wisdom he has continued to bring to Nigeria’s development process through his books and regular national interventions, reflecting a deep sense of patriotism and commitment to nation-building.
