PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES EX-KANO GOVERNOR, IBRAHIM SHEKARAU, ON 70TH BIRTHDAY
Abuja, Nigeria – November 11, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to former Governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu commended Senator Shekarau’s illustrious career in public service, describing him as a dedicated statesman and a man of principle who has made remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s development.
The President noted that Senator Shekarau’s journey from a classroom teacher to a permanent secretary in the Kano State Civil Service reflects an enduring legacy of commitment, discipline, and leadership. He also recalled Shekarau’s “phenomenal election” as Governor of Kano State in 2003, where he served two terms distinguished by a human-centred approach to governance that focused on education, social welfare, and infrastructural development.
Beyond his tenure as governor, Shekarau continued to serve the nation in various capacities — notably as Minister of Education (2014–2015) and later as Senator representing Kano Central (2019–2023).
President Tinubu expressed gratitude for Senator Shekarau’s contributions to national development, noting that his dedication to public service and education continues to inspire many across Nigeria.
“Senator Shekarau’s life is a testament to diligence, humility, and devotion to the common good. Nigeria is better for his years of service as an educator, administrator, and politician,” President Tinubu said.
The President prayed that Allah grants the former Kano governor good health, long life, and continued strength to contribute further to the progress of his people and the nation.
