President Tinubu Congratulates FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku on Election as Vice-President of ACI Africa
Abuja, Nigeria – September 19, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), following her election as Vice-President of Airports Council International (ACI) Africa.
The announcement was made in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. The ratification of Mrs. Kuku’s election took place during the 34th ACI Africa General Assembly held in Lusaka, Zambia, which commenced on September 13 and is scheduled to close on Friday, September 20, 2025.
Airports Council International (ACI), the global trade representative of the world’s airports, plays a central role in developing standards, policies, and best practices that guide the global aviation sector. Founded in 1991, the organization oversees more than 2,000 airports in over 170 countries and territories, under the supervision of its World Governing Board.
A Milestone for Nigerian Aviation
President Tinubu described Mrs. Kuku’s election as a testament to Nigeria’s growing influence in international aviation and a recognition of the strides FAAN has made under her leadership.
“The Managing Director’s election as Vice-President of ACI Africa is a proud moment for Nigeria,” the President said. “It is a well-deserved recognition of her leadership, vision, and dedication to positioning Nigeria’s airports at par with global standards.”
Commending FAAN’s Leadership
The President praised the sustained efforts of FAAN’s management in promoting safe, secure, and efficient air travel in Nigeria. He noted that these efforts have earned the nation both regional and international accolades.
According to the statement, Mrs. Kuku’s tenure has brought renewed strategic direction to Nigeria’s airport infrastructure and services, reflecting the government’s broader agenda to make the aviation sector a key driver of national development and economic growth.
Global Recognition
Before her elevation to Vice-President of ACI Africa, Mrs. Kuku served as a Regional Advisor for Africa and currently holds a seat as a permanent member of the ACI World Governing Board—a role that further cements her status as a global thought leader in airport administration and policy.
Her election marks a significant milestone not just for Nigeria, but for the African continent, as it strengthens the region’s voice in shaping the future of global airport operations and governance.
Looking Ahead
As FAAN continues to undergo transformative reforms, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the aviation industry and its leadership in achieving international excellence.
“Mrs. Kuku’s achievement signals the boundless potential of Nigerian professionals on the world stage,” the President concluded. “She has made the country proud, and we are confident she will excel in her new role, championing Africa’s interests while driving innovation and collaboration across the aviation ecosystem.”
