PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES FAROUK GUMEL, TOBI AMUSAN ON REMARKABLE FEATS

Abuja, Nigeria — September 17, 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to two distinguished Nigerians, Farouk Gumel and Tobi Amusan, in recognition of their recent exceptional achievements that have brought pride to the nation on the global stage.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu praised Mr. Gumel’s appointment as Chairman of Botswana Sovereign Wealth Fund Limited, describing it as a well-earned acknowledgment of his expertise and leadership in the finance and investment sectors.

“As Vice Chairman for Africa at the Tropical General Investment (TGI) Group and a dedicated contributor to Nigeria’s food sufficiency efforts, Gumel’s new role is a source of national pride,” the President stated. “His appointment is a testament to the high regard in which Nigerian professionals are held internationally. I am confident he will excel and further cement Nigeria’s reputation for excellence in global finance.”

Also earning the President’s praise was Tobi Amusan, who delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, winning a silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles.

President Tinubu commended Amusan’s continued success on the world athletics stage, calling her a symbol of resilience and determination.

“Tobi has once again demonstrated that with patriotic fervour, hard work, and determination, any height is surmountable,” he said. “Her relentless drive and unwavering spirit continue to inspire millions of Nigerians and project the image of a nation brimming with talent and perseverance.”

Concluding his message, the President expressed confidence in both individuals’ future successes and reaffirmed the government’s unwavering support for their ongoing efforts and aspirations.

“These achievements not only highlight individual brilliance but also serve as shining examples of the global impact Nigerians continue to make across sectors,” the statement added.
